The Rosy Lee Café Eastbourne

About Us

Dee & Kevin
Dee & Kevin

The new owners of The Rosy Lee are Dee & Kevin Gillett, and they bought The Rosy Lee Café in June 2021. Keeping the name (as the cafe is renowned in the Town) but branding the café as ‘The Rosy Lee’, after a pirate ship that sailed the seven seas! As you can see from their logo.

Dee grew up in Eastbourne and Kevin grew up in Barcombe and Ringmer. They met at Eastbourne Catering college and just a few years later, after leaving college, they decided to get married.

They have two daughters, who between them have produced seven granddaughters, hence one of the reasons why the café has now changed from a male ‘trade’s’ dominated café, to now attracting all types of customers – families, couples and even ladies alone feel safe & comfortable in coming in and using the café.

Their aim is to renovate the café to make it more comfortable for all their customers and also to utilise the (currently unused) outside space, especially good for the nice summer months.

We cook and make to order, breakfasts, homemade lunches, daily Lunch Specials, snacks, cakes and a range of drinks including freshly ground coffee with a warm and friendly welcome from all of our staff.

Watch out for the changes that we make, as we have great plans for the place.

"Rosy Lee" is Cockney rhyming slang for a cup of tea. The café already carried the name when we bought it, and we quickly realised it had become something of an Eastbourne institution. Rather than changing it, we decided to build on its character.

When we took over the café, we reimagined The Rosy Lee as the name of a legendary pirate ship. Since then, we've embraced the pirate theme with fun décor, stories and artwork to make every visit a little more memorable for both children and adults alike.

Our mission is simple: to serve exceptional food, provide outstanding customer service and create a place where everyone feels welcome, valued and part of The Rosy Lee family.
